The Retro- Modern Style

“Everything old is new again.”

Maison et objet was accentuated with different pieces of the mid-century era where we saw the perfect balance between elegance and functionality. A retro style was brought along with the modern or contemporary decor.

Essential home Sophia sofa is a perfect example of the mid-century pieces exhibited in the show. This piece can easily be used in a modern living room with a classic style twist. We also noticed the extreme use of brass or gold sheets such as in the Monocles sideboard also designed by Essential Home. It’s a piece with an extreme character and high end look. And the sideboard would look even better if it is accentuated with the irregular shaped mirror known as the Wiled Mirror. Not to miss the beautiful pieces designed by Mambo unlimited designs combined with the pastel color palette and a floor made of  black and white tiles displayed perfectly in a restaurant ambiance.

Metal, Brass and Shiny Materials

Mixing finishes gives a more thoughtfully created look and a harmonious look, natural and painted woods and stone with touches of gold and brass is the secret of mix eras and styles. Shiny materials are definitely in for 2018, as seen before in Milan design week and now in Paris fair the spaces were full of mirrors, colored glass, and metal.

Natural Wood Massive Planks

Classic materials like wood are always in, Wide planks with natural look represent the return to a more rustic and vintage look. Additionally, even though the wood will probably be fairly neutral, the wide planks will add a subtle pop of visual interest to the room.

Concrete Everywhere

A new collection popped out in the fair, reflecting the wish of the organizer to go back to basics. Designers created objects made of earthy materials with a very contemporary look.

Maison et Object  have witnessed a huge rise in the use of concrete in interior design . Many designers are now using concrete in unexpected and unusual ways and it would seem that  nothing  can’t be made using this versatile material from separation panels to lighting, plant pots, tables , counter tops etc…

Bold Colors and Pastels

2018 brought a bit of revolution in color trends where intense shades of green, beige and warm terracotta were stealing the scene. Terracotta is a shades of orange resembling the salmon color it gives a depth and brings intensity and warmth to the home decor.

Bold colors made a comeback in 2018 staying inside of the monochromatic trend of 2017. The idea is that you’ll have a bold color like pink, but different hues of the same color.

Primary colors are also back, especially red, the yellow and the blue.

And finally not to forget about the soft and comforting pastel colors as well.

Geometric and Exotic Patterns

Fabrics with three-dimensional and diverse expressions designed by Imaginative Material , where newly released in the Paris fair. Where some of them were inspired by natural elements such as plants, and others with abstract motifs, the brand is designed for a wide range of applications.

We also noticed the geometrical shapes in rugs and tiles. And finally Bright African colors and patterns were dominant as well, especially on pillars pillows, fabric and items etc…
